Condition of Children in Orange County

This annual report was first developed in 1993 and presented information and data on 28 indicators describing the status of Orange County's children. The purpose of the report was "to provide a comprehensive picture of the present condition of children in Orange County and to establish a baseline from which to measure future progress and track changing conditions." The most recent, 10th Annual Report on the Conditions of Children in Orange County has been expanded to include 38 indicators, but the purpose of the report remains the same.

The indicators are presented in four sections - Good Health, Economic Well-Being, Educational Achievement, and Safe Homes and Communities. Each section opens with a vignette describing an Orange County child and family - a real life perspective the numbers cannot fully portray. Each indicator is defined and the findings and trends are presented along with a discussion of why the indicator is important and what the local significance is.
